| Italian Abstract: | Il presente lavoro parte dal tentativo di far dialogare due approcci della sociologia diversi tra loro, quello della salute e quello della famiglia. L'obiettivo è la comprensione dell'impatto che la malattia ha sul sistema familiare e sulle relazioni interne ed esterne alla famiglia. In particolare, l'attenzione è posta sulla comprensione delle caratteristiche della rete formale e informale di supporto delle famiglie coinvolte nella malattia di Huntington, patologia neurodegenerativa rara. La finalità è quella di comprendere se tale rete sia vissuta come supportiva e quindi produttrici di capitale sociale o se al contrario, qualora inesistente o carente, produca una percezione di solitudine. Per rispondere alle domande di ricerca, è stato adottato un approccio mix-method, comprendente una fase qualitativa, attraverso l’uso delle illness narratives, e una quantitativa, attraverso una social network analysis. |
| English Abstract: | This work begins with the attempt to bring together two different approaches of sociology: health and family. The goal is to understand the impact that the disease has on the family system and on internal and external family relationships. In particular, the focus is on understanding the characteristics of the formal and informal support network of families involved in Huntington's disease, a rare neurodegenerative disease. The aim is to determine whether such networks are experienced as supportive and therefore producers of social capital, or if, conversely, their absence or inadequacy leads to a perception of loneliness. To answer the research questions, a mix-method approach was adopted, comprising a qualitative phase, through the use of illness narratives, and a quantitative one, through a social network analysis. |
