| Italian Abstract: | La tesi fa una storia sociale delle sale cinematografiche, con un caso di studio sulla provincia di Brescia, dagli inizi agli anni Novanta. È divisa in tre parti. 1. Una revisione della letteratura esistente, sia internazionale (New Cinema History), sia legata al contesto italiano. Inoltre si discutono i principali punti teorici legati al 'dispositivo' (per descrivere e definire la sala cinematografica), sia legati alla storiografia. 2. Una rassegna delle politiche italiane sulle sale cinematografiche. Sono stati analizzati i provvedimenti (leggi e decreti) e le motivazioni (i dibattiti parlamentari e extraparlamentari, specialmente su quotidiani e riviste di settore). 3. Infine, è stato operato un censimento delle sale cinematografiche della provincia di Brescia a partire da molteplici fonti (annuari del cinema, archivi locali e centrali, quotidiani, ecc.). In questo modo è stato possibile analizzare quantità, tipologie, modalità operative, gestione delle sale, enfatizzando specialmente la distinzione tra città e provincia. Infine si propone una periodizzazione complessiva della vita della sala italiana. |
| English Abstract: | The doctoral thesis is a social history of Italian movie theatres, with a case study about the province of Brescia, from the inception of stable cinemas to the 1990s. It is made of three sections. 1. A literary review, both international (New Cinema History) and Italian. Furthermore, theoretical points are made about the 'dispositif' (in order to describe and define a movie theatre) and about cinema historiography. 2. A review of every Italian policy impacting movie theatres. I analysed actual legislative measures (decrees and laws) and their motivations (parliamentary debates and trade magazines and newspapers). 3. Finally, I built a database of movie theatres that existed in the province of Brescia, using several sources (cinema yearbooks, local and central archives, newspapers' film listings, etc.). With that, I analysed quantity, typologies, modes of operation, management, especially stressing the differences between the city and the out-of-city context. |
