| Italian Abstract: | Questa tesi ricostruisce e analizza il contributo dei cattolici italiani alle relazioni tra l’Italia e la Repubblica popolare cinese durante la Guerra fredda, esaminando le motivazioni e le visioni politiche, economiche e religiose che ispirarono l’impegno di personalità come Giorgio La Pira, Amintore Fanfani, Aldo Moro, Vittorino Colombo e Giulio Andreotti. Questa tesi mostra come fra i cattolici italiani vi fossero figure che furono in grado di superare la rigida divisione tra comunismo e anticomunismo e la lontananza geografica e culturale per sviluppare un fruttuoso dialogo tra due realtà profondamente diverse sul piano politico, ideologico ed economico come l’Italia e la Cina. |
| English Abstract: | This thesis aims at reconstructing and analysing the contribution of the Italian Catholics to the relations between Italy and the People’s Republic of China during the Cold War, examining the political, economic, and religious motivations that inspired the actions of important Catholic political figures, such as Giorgio La Pira, Amintore Fanfani, Aldo Moro, Vittorino Colombo, and Giulio Andreotti. This thesis shows how some Italian Catholics were able to overcome not only the rigid division of communism and anticommunism, but also the geographical and cultural distance, to develop a fruitful dialogue between two ideologically, politically, and economically different realities, such as Italy and China. |
